What happened to the other people working on Mahoyo’s translation?
The dude that did the demo’s translation was bad/wrong and would need to be completely TLCed/redone. All the people from Amaterasu were busy and didn’t/couldn’t work on it at all.

What’s with the recent increase of ‘fansubs’ doing VN translations? I know they are similar but did the hacking part get easy suddenly? And I’m surprised the people working on the projects didn’t wander off to the usual VN translation groups.
You’re basically wrong on every count.
We started long ago and originally it was barely even related to Commie, but now that everyone working on it is in the group, here we are.
The engine is probably the easiest one to use and required no hacking. I just asked some people to make some tools to make it easier/more automated.
And me/DxS have been part of TLWiki for a while.
Yeah, the “hacking” is probably the easiest part of the whole Mahoyo project, lol. I know almost nothing about anything, and even I was able to figure out how to make validated patches, and that was just me randomly fucking around. I imagine that people with even a little bit of scene experience would have been up and running maybe ten seconds after they decided they wanted to translate it.

I’m baffled at the general japanese behaviour of social enlosure, but I’m glad that more and more people are willing to allow us to import their knowledge.

It kinda sucks though that you spit like that on cokeseta’s work. He did a very good job translating the Kara no Kyoukai novels although some people blamed him for putting well-flowing english above sticking exactly to the japanese original.
Too bad some of the lines he translated for Mahoyo were just wrong. Like literally wrong. Like “does this guy even know Japanese?” kind of wrong.
Right… And Commie stole Cokesakto’s hard work from Amaterasu’s website and claim it as their own. Real smooth. *slow clap*
And Cokesakto’s style isn’t to literally translate Mahoyo since its a VN not an anime. You just like to downplay his work since he was the only one who actually who made any real progress with it. I seriously doubt Commie would do better if anywhere as good as he did.

translating literally is better anyway than. for example the sub of girl under panzer i have to listen to Japanese to translate the German word back (-_-)?. btw they are obvously speaking japanese so why german? because the title has “Panzer” in it?

Considering your post is barely English, I’m going to assume you have no idea what translating Japanese literally would actually look like.
Yeah, not really. If you even compare his “translation” to the incomplete Baka-Tsuki translation it’s clear he totally rewrote shit to the point of ADDING LINES OF DIALOGUE which weren’t there originally. Honestly, when translating a novel or VN I am fine with some minor rewrites to make the text flow but it’s pretty clear he’s gone overboard with it.
There were examples in files he translated not from the demo where he simply got the line wrong, and many other lines where the tone was completely off as well.

Evening, how frequent are the updates on the project status? This and that can happen, but I love it when there is indication on how the project is going, even if its just to report that no progress has been made.
Thanks for taking this, I don’t read visual novels that often, but I’ve liked Type-moons products so far and this one has me a little excited.

Well for older krkr games there are shitloads of tools. For newer things like Mahoyo, you need arc_conv and xp3dumper.

Well, aside from the kind of asshole atitude in the coments, thank you so much for translating this game.
I think they resort to speaking like that only because people ask stupid questions like ‘OMG R U GONNA RELEASE PARTIAL PATCH? XDXD’ when they’ve clearly stated in the FAQ’s that they won’t. The least people can do is read the stuff provided before asking questions.

In all fairness, the comments DO make them look like a bit of an asshole. As someone who had almost no knowledge of Commie before being directed to this project, I almost immediately turned around and walked away after seeing the comments. The fact that it’s a Type-Moon VN is probably the only thing that stopped me.

I’m not angry, and I’m still very grateful that people are translating this. But while you may think your image doesn’t matter, the truth is that it does. Maybe try playing nice once in a while, it may go a long way to improving the community. A happier community will recommend you more, leading to increased visitors and maybe even increased donations, not to mention all the people viewing and appreciating your work. Everybody wins.

the amount of donations we get has almost no effect on any of us (except in the rare case we get a lot of extra money and can buy a BD or something but that doesn’t really happen) so that’s terrible motivation. and really, i do will good work regardless of whether or not people hate me/Commie since i am doing it for myself first and foremost

I thought the whole point of this project was for other people to download your release and enjoy it. If you don’t call this working for other people, then I don’t know what it is. Well, it’s already been stated that Ryougi is one of the few people that may be able to fight Servants, but most of it would be a defensive battle on her part. She might be able to get a couple of hits in, though one hit is all she really needs.
