Sorry for the bother, but I have a question that’s been bugging me for some time now. On episode 21, at exactly 04:52, some friends of Onoda’s mother say (based on HS scripts) “Did Onoda-san take that bus?” How can this be translated more accurately?? “Did Onoda take that bus?” or “Did Mrs. Onoda take that bus?”
Just a minor detail, but it’s been bugging me on how is the best way to translate the honorifics some times.
Japanese address nearly everyone outside their family with honorifics… Since they seem to be her friends, I don’t think adding Mrs. or anything like that would be appropriate in English…
Yeah, now that I think about it, you’re both totally right!! Sorry about that. :P Just out of curiosity, another thing that just doesn’t make sense is why would the anime production (tbh I haven’t checked the manga to see if this is indeed the anime production’s fault) make her friends call her “Onoda”???
Is that her name?? It can’t be as it’s Onoda’s name!! xD Shouldn’t they call her by her real name (still unknown even in the manga) or at least by her surname which is “Sakamichi”?? I may be wrong on this one, but I just don’t get it.
This episode is indescribable!!!!! Thank you so much for all your work so far Commie!!!!! :) :)

Do you refer to your friends as Mr./Ms.? I certainly don’t.

No, Onoda is her last name.
WAIT, so you’re telling me that Onoda’s first name is “Sakamichi” and his last name is “Onoda”?!?!?!!? :O :O :O
If that’s the case then it’s like this?? :
Sangaku Manami:
Sangaku: First Name
Manami: Last Name
No? They’re just written the opposite way in Japanese. Family name comes first, then given name.
I see. Thanks for the explanation herkz!!! :)
