What happened to the other people working on Mahoyo’s translation?
The dude that did the demo’s translation was bad/wrong and would need to be completely TLCed/redone. All the people from Amaterasu were busy and didn’t/couldn’t work on it at all.

I’m seriously wondering which project will come out first: Mahoyo or Hollow Ataraxia?
Sure, HA is infamous for being a project that is never released, however it never dies out either. From the VNTL status tracker, it seems they are close…very close. Maybe by the end of next year we might have something!
Can Commie say the same for Mahoyo though?

I’m not sure what happened. I tried reading the damn forum, and what I got is that some random dude posted a quick “workaround” unnoficial patch, which made the actual dude that was translating it very angry.
Then this actual dude released his own “official” version of the translation patch? So it’s unfinished? I don’t get it.

about 30% of it is google translate quality, so no, it’s not finished.
Keep in mind some fans are trying to make a better quality release. Same forum as the original release. They’re at 88% as of the time of this posting.

it’s not. i know quite a lot about the project, so i know for a fact it is unfinished and some of the translation is of extremely dubious quality still.
better than nothing at all tbh. I’m not expecting any translation on the level of TakaJun F/S N. It’s really good considering we wait 5 f***ing years for this
I was also playing the *ehem* leaked patch for UBW by Ascalon since Message and TakaJun takes too long to make the voice patch available
i hope you realize f/sn translation is really bad
so f/ha being even worse would mean it’s basically 100% incorrect (or machine translation (which it partially is))
Bad or not, f/sn is one of the highest ranking VNs out there for english and japanese alike.
So even if it’s not an exact match to the original script, I believe the scores speak for themselves.
Sometimes being an exact match is not as important as being enjoyable to read. You should know that better then anyone, that to TL japanese to english involves alot of adlibing~
okay, but that wasn’t my point at all. i’m just saying that “as good as F/SN’s translation” is kind of fucking bad.

Isn’t McJon unable to properly patch the game / inserting the translated the dialogue into the game.
The people that worked on F/ha could do that though.
Also: Game’s translation is finished, it’s in the TLC (Commie) as far as I’m informed

I was more going into the direction of what you have to check / edit the in-game text or the text from a .txt file or something similar.

No Mahoyo editors were hired, but another staff member agreed to work on it.

I find that almost no one has. I’ve been constantly having to tell people bugging me about the Fate/hollow ataraxia patch (which, interestingly enough, this project is starting to be mentioned in the same breath as that one now…) about the existence of that part of any translation project at least 3-4 times per week for what seems like ages now.
In fairness, I think a lot of people who come to this page are being confused by the status reports.
The most recent update was in 2013 saying 50%.
Then the Total Percentage in the table is 67.99%
If you don’t want people to ask about it, you probably should have an easily visible way of determining the status…(that goes for FHA as well unless things have changed since I last looked at that)

If you took 10 seconds to check the comments, you’d know there has been steady progress, to the point where the translation is finished and editing/tlc is being done.

I think they have the same problem with F/HA. Too concerned with the quality of the release while no one want to actually TL’d and quality check everything.
F/HA got leaked and everything is “understandable” and patched accordingly. I don’t see any reason why Mahoyo did not do it
sorry, but unlike the rest of the community, we actually care about the quality of the release. we’re not going to release it unedited.

Hmm, I remember someone said at the old beast lair at 2006 that it will be much faster if we just learned japanese instead of waiting for translation group.
I don’t think that Guyperson was around during mirrormoon F/S N UBW translation. The amount of rage that is because Mirrormoon taking its sweet time to release the UBW patch while the unofficial version already out was so absurd that the complain on this page looks really nice.
It would sure be neat if this page was updated sometimes, even a hundred times slower than the comments.
I mean, it’s kinda unpleasant that these “news” create the impression of the work being abandoned.

I know it’s beating dead horse a bit here but has there been any update on the TLC status? I wouldn’t mind waiting nearly as much if I just had an idea as to where it’s at right now.

Since all my Japanese is from anime, and I thought they translated the dialogue well.

Meh, seems like nitpicking to me. At some point you have to sacrifice elegance for a more legible context, or else it just turns into pretentious garble.
Except when the original is, as you put it, “pretentious garble.” Unless you think it’s okay if translations just kill the style and spirit of the original.
Also, I think you missed how TakaJun’s translation of that section misses some details too.
FAir points – but to a reader that doesn’t know japanese, it it can be considered irrelevent. I can understand it being frustrating for those that know the story in it’s “true form”.
But non-speakers are just gonna have to settle regardless – as not everything can really be expressed properly into english.
Well, the F/SN translation is bad even for an amateur. People really should not settle so low.

You might want to try the recent translations in F/SN Realta Nua. It’s the same as the original F/SN with a few additions that weren’t included, but the routes are seperated into three seperate programs. One for each route. Don’t just take my word for it though, look up Realta Nua and see if it’s worth it. Though the patch I’m using is huge though… 1.3 GB…

Not only does no such team exist (seriously, there aren’t really VN teams like there are fansub groups), I would be extremely suspect if they just accepted all our work instead of doing it from scratch.
