Okay, I have a somewhat strange question.
The concept of hako niwa is common in Japan, but lacks an obvious translation in English.
On the other hand, we have the children’s book The Secret Garden, which goes after practically the same concept. For me, this association comes naturally. Yet, I have never seen “hako niwa” translated as “the secret garden”… why?
