Qualifications:
Not a retard.
Type faster than a monkey.
Not a retard.
Be on the computer (and thus IRC) for at least 5 hours a day.

Be prepared to have an enormous amount of work to do at once sometimes and nearly none other times.

To apply:
1. Join our IRC channel (#[email protected] or the tab at the top there)
2. Join the current discussion, whatever it may be, or wait until people start talking about something you’re interested in.
3. Stay on topic.
4. Don’t be retarded.
5. After you feel like you’ve made an impression let us know you’re applying as a typist.
Assuming steps 1-5 were done correctly you’ll probably get the position. Bonus points if you have knowledge of other aspects of fansubbing (but you’re not yet involved with a group)

what part of fansubbing does the typist do?
all I know are…
TL: Translator
TLC: Translation Checker
Editor: turning engrish to common english
Typesettor: picking color-themes, fronts, place sigh translations on the correct spot.
QC: Quality checker
Distro: Distrubitor
Replaces translator.
Hardsubbed simulcast video > Typist > Editor > Typesetter > QC > Distro
Just curious… but can’t you just take the HR subs? I’m not trying to start a fight but… why not?

The subtitles are hardsubbed into the video. There is no separate subtitle file to pull out of the episode, thus requiring someone to type out the script as it appears on the video. This is dependent on who is simulcasting the video. i.e. Funimation videos are hardsubbed, Crunchyroll are not. So a HorribleSubs rip of a Crunchyroll show will have softsubs, while one of a Funimation show will not…

How fast do you need to be able to type? As fast as a touch typist? I am not a touch typist but I can type faster than them for a short time, though I will make plenty of mistakes.
Is there a test or anything?
The attitude is more important than speed.
Strangely, I’m actually very interested in joining. I’ve been considering applying to groups for a few weeks now.
Only problem is, I’m a noob at using IRC.
