    Thanks!

  2. rocketreal says:

Thanks, but you guys really gotta cool it with the over localizations.

Dialogue: 0,0:02:21.22,0:02:24.03,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,We’re inside your dream, Rito.
    Dialogue: 0,0:02:24.25,0:02:26.35,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,Rito?
Dialogue: 0,0:02:26.35,0:02:27.90,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,How do you know my name?!

While I may not be fluent in Japanese, at the very least I know this isn’t what he said. Changing the meaning of a line just so that you can over localize a previous line makes it way too weird and not right when you hear one thing and read something else.

    • rocketreal says:

And on another note, telling me to watch the other subber’s release isn’t really going to work, since they started over localizing everything since a few seasons back >_>

P.S. This was just one of the many examples of really poor usage of localizations that really ticked me off to the point that I just had to point out.

      • johnny_dickpants says:

Instead of being whiny, you could post the rest so we can have the team address your claims.

    • herkz says:

I really, really doubt the line was changed so that previous line(s) could be “over localized”. That makes basically no sense, anyway.

    • RHExcelion says:

No, you see, it’s actually very close to what he said:

      “We’re inside your dream, sempai.”
      “Sempai?”
“Who are you and why are you calling me sempai?!”

Shut the fuck up and go learn Japanese if you have a problem with properly translating things. Actually, if you knew Japanese, you wouldn’t even have this problem, because then you would know it was properly translated. In conclusion? Don’t be retarded.

    • rocketreal says:

My thing is, why bother with localizing names and honorifics? While I do appreciate you guys subbing anime, but in my opinion, you guys are just giving yourselves more work by localizing everything. Like with the above original translation, you are hear “Yuuki-senpai”, but change it to “Rito.” instead of just leaving it. Not only are you switching his last name with his first, but you are also dropping the honorifics.

I also had something to say about your usage of “Mr.” in place of “-san/-sama/-sensei/-etc.” and changing spoken lines from “Yuuki Rito-san” to “Mr. Rito Yuuki”, but I got distracted by food and lost my train of thought. >_>

      • herkz says:

Because we don’t do weeaboo subs. Never have. If you wan’t those, feel free to go elsewhere.

        • rocketreal says:

Still, seems like too much /effort/ to to go around changing everything, even to the meaning of a line. >_>

          • herkz says:

Yes, making better subs is more work. What a surprise.

            • rocketreal says:

I personally wouldn’t call incorrect translations “better”.

              • herkz says:

They don’t look incorrect to me. I mean, maybe literally incorrect, but if you wanna go that way, then probably 95% of the lines are wrong but I don’t see you complaining about the rest.

                • rocketreal says:

While most translations are not 100% correct, they at least convey the same meaning. The third line of the above is clearly different.

Dialogue: 0,0:02:26.35,0:02:27.90,Default,,0000,0000,0000,,How do you know my name?!

He said nothing of the sort.

RHExcelion: “Who are you and why are you calling me sempai?!”

Pretty sure he only said the “Who are you?!” part (again, not fluent in Japanese, but I can at least realize he didn’t say “senpai” in that line).

                  • herkz says:

And our translation conveys the same meaning.

                    Thanks for trying.

                    • rocketreal says:

And in what world does “How do you know my name?!” mean the same thing as “Who are you?!”?

                    • herkz says:

                      This one?

                    • johnny_dickpants says:

Today’s the day you learn that there’s more than one way to say the same thing, I guess.

                    • rocketreal says:

My condolences for living in such a messed up world… >_>

                    • Xythar says:

The point is obviously that he’s surprised she recognizes him or otherwise acts so familiar. Both lines get that point across in an acceptable manner.

                    • rocketreal says:

That message was already conveyed in the second line, the third line is still a question of who that girl is. Message NOT brought up.

Jino: “Your subs arn’t better. You’re turning them into commercial crap. Fan subbing is about being one with the Japanese culture, and bringing the viewer closer to the Japanese culture. The best subs leave as much Japanese in tack, and actively educate the viewer about common words and phrases every otaku should know.”

                    • herkz says:

                      wat

                    • Xythar says:

rocketreal, if that’s what you think subs should be, you are in completely the wrong place. Fuck off.

                    • airco says:

Dude, I even agree with you that the line seems inaccurate (I wouldn’t know since I don’t watch this shit show), but oh man are you in the wrong place.

                    • rocketreal says:

Did you not see the “Jino:” bit in front of the quotes? While I agree with some of the things he said, there are also some other things I disagree. I was merely copying what someone else thought of localizations.

                    • herkz says:

Why would you quote a retard?

                    • Orcus says:

I haven’t watched the show, but I can prove you wrong and break your defence in three moves.

                    • rocketreal says:

Cause like I said, there were still some things he said that I agree with, and some that I don’t.

                    • herkz says:

Okay well that’s basically the opposite of how we sub so I don’t know why you’re saying it. We’re not going to change because one dude quoted some other retard.

                    • Orcus says:

Also, this show is seriously not worth arguing over.

                    • rocketreal says:

Well, the point of the argument was not this show, it was about localizations. I just decided to use this as the example.

                    • herkz says:

And your point is bad and wrong and you should feel bad. If you want to learn Japanese via watching anime, go elsewhere.

                    • Xythar says:

We sub for people who want to see everything translated in their subs, not just the words they don’t understand. If you don’t like that, please go elsewhere. Doki are subbing this show and that line you quoted might as well be from their manifesto, so I have no idea why you’re still here.

                    • rocketreal says:

You missed my reply to my first posting. That other subber I was referring to was Doki. They started over localizing everything as well starting from like a year ago or longer. Kinda stopped watching their subs cause of their localizations. >_>

There is also Pomf for this show; though, while quite a bit later, their QC needs work.

But there are also shows that Commie subs that nobody else is subbing. So unfortunately, for some series, I’m stuck with you guys. Yoroshiku ^_^

                    • herkz says:

                      >Doki
                      >localizing anything

Hmm… perhaps I will have to retract my previous statement about Doki localizing their subs, at least for now. But there was indeed a stretch where Doki did localize everything along with poor translation style that led to me boycotting their subs. *shrugs*

                    • herkz says:

Oh, Doki is bad, but they pretty much never do anything even remotely approaching localization.

                    • rocketreal says:

Or… was it because they switched to British English that really ticked me off? *shrug*

                  • airco says:

Excuse us for thinking that you posting a quote in an argument to defend your point of view meant you actually agreed with the quote.

                    • rocketreal says:

I do agree with the quote, for the most part… I’m just not as extreme as to think that you need to “leave as much Japanese in tack”.
