1. She does say “Shinju”. Shinjū (心中, the characters for “mind” and “centre”) means “double suicide” in Japanese
2. Unless I’m mistaken CrunchyRoll used “double suicide” which means you edited it out
While it could be a valid translation, the impact of her last line would be a lot different. So was there any particular reason you chose not to go with it?
Because our line sounds better while still meaning the same thing. The TLC even read that part of the book in Japanese to make sure what was going on in the scene in question.
I do agree that your line was more graceful, however I don’t believe it has the same effect or meaning. While I did get a somewhat ominous vibe from your line, I wouldn’t say it is on the same level as a double suicide or lover’s suicide (http://mangafox.me/manga/shigatsu_wa_kimi_no_uso/v08/c032/47.html).
I only brought it up because I was wondering if you guys put in the extra (unnecessary, but of course appreciated) effort into your releases.
Don’t get me wrong, I do prefer the way you guys phrased it. It’s just that after watching your release I was pretty surprised to find out she was referring to a double suicide which in my opinion has a much more negative feel to it (rougher? inelegant?). So I did skim a bit of the book (English translation) without finding the specific instance of the term in the dialogue, which was what I was hoping. But either way it seems that the TLC went the extra mile.
Anyway sorry about all that. Thanks again for the reply and the release! Much appreciated.
I can’t even see that page of the manga because it’s licensed in the US. Although using scanlations as your argument for how something should be translated basically makes you lose all credibility anyway.
Thanks for the release.
Is there any slight chance that the anime will alter the ending?
i seriously doubt it
Thanks for the release!
Correct me if I’m wrong but she was quoting lines from the book Alliance of the 15s by Mita Masahiro.
Is there a reason you didn’t go with “Why don’t we commit a double suicide”
Well, it’s not like there’s any official translation of the book. I mean, maybe you noticed but we don’t even call the book that when we typeset it.
While that is true,
