“Fuligin” is not a word, at least outside of “The Book of the New Sun.” The word you’re seeking is “fuliginous,” but it’s not really accurate for the situation: the little bird has turned black not because it is obscured with soot, as “fuliginous” suggests, but rather because it has absorbed every color of the spectrum. (Even if one accepts “fuligin” as “utter black, without highlights or shadows” it just takes one look at the illustration to see that this description is inaccurate.) I’d love to recommend my favorite word, “crepuscular,” in this situation, but honestly your best choice is probably something like “atramental” or “nigrescent.” Or, er, you know, “black.”

    Thanks for the release.
I do have a slight problem with translation of kanji’s line
    around 5:50
it was translated as “the fuck?!”
when he actually just said “sempai…?”
Just sayin’ although it is one of those wtf moments

  14. brainchild says:

I’ve been translating/localizing “senpai” since the beginning to match the characters’ reactions.
