lol Doki’s releases are pretty crappy in comparison. Are you guys gonna have the newest ep out on time this week though?
the simulcast is about half a week late, and our tl’s refuse to do this show because the ‘official’ tl’s are good enough, and they dislike male fanservice (they’re both gorgeous onnanokos), so we’re pretty much restricted to that air schedule.
Based on those screenshots, I’d probably prefer the Doki subs.

Yeah you have better video quality but I like Doki’s idea of both english traduction and original kanji in the same sign.
It’s a thing that Yuurisan does too in Working!! , it’s better that way.
Why the fuck should Kanji still be on the sign? Subs are for people who don’t know Japanese, there’s no need for a Kanji sign to be left intact.

You can study at another time. Good subs don’t exist for your education, because most people watch for fun and entertainment rather than learning (although with the amount of blind weaboos in these comments I wonder about that…)

The kanji is still there in Commie’s version. The white areas that cover the signs are part of the softsubbing, and can be turned off in the same way.

I think both groups did a good job (although I have seen more grammar mistakes in Doki releases than Commie).

I also noticed two translation mistakes in Doki’s screenshot: “kometogi” is “rice polishing” – “rice cleaning” is also ok, but “rice cooking” is wrong.
Same with “zoukingake” which means mopping the floor – “drying” is totally wrong there.
Looks like Doki combines poor image quality with poor translation.

Commie screenshots #2 & #3 look a little blocky and with too much ringing for my tastes, but are nice and watchable anyway.

Commie is a great group. They’re actually my new favorite because they put out high quality shows that I like. Plus the sex isn’t that bad. But sometimes they do take too long releasing stuff, like House of Five Leaves for example. I honestly don’t know how they fucked up like that, but I digress.

I agree that Commie as better quality video, Doki has had lower quality video for other shows as well. BUT I do believe Doki translations make more sense (even if they aren’t exact matches).
Example: Cooking rice vs rice cleaning
rice cleaning – if you are going to clean it then someone is going to be cooking it which could be considered another chore.
cooking rice – combines both chores since you must clean before cooking.
and since the assistants are willing to help out with all house chores I’m sure they would cook and clean.
cooking rice and cleaning it are two completely different things

If you guys are doing the Blurays, you win. You had every single Assistdroid sign while Doki did not (In episode 3). Also, while your subs ARE a little more localized (since they come from the streaming), it’s not really a bad thing. The Japanese words were a little off, but they really WERE trying to do a Star Trek parody, as you can tell by the music.

Yeah, your version is signficantly better, but the difference is not nearly as noticeable while playing as it is in handpicked screenshots.
Doki’s releases are probably smaller (in file size / bitrate) on purpose since they are already planning on doing the BDs.
Anyway, no group is perfect. Calling out another group on minor differences is kind of a dick move.

When Crunchyroll’s subs are just super bad, they trot out the TLs to fix them up because the editors they have aren’t competent enough to be trusted with anything more than a line of text.

do you guys rip CR or funi? and are those aired in 720p are do you upscale them? also do you TL it again yourself or do you use the IMO already good subs?
We rip CR and Funi, for Asobi it’s CR, dunno if it’s an upscale but prolly not because our encoder wouldn’t have allowed it. (everything airs in 1080i so nobody really knows the real res) We don’t TL again if it’s done by Funi or CR but we do edit and time and typeset.

for LOLHeroes, I use horriblesubs because they are the fastest but 360p is just killing. The 360p is because they only release what funi or CR releases so how come your subs are 720p eventhough they are CR and funi subs as well?
