I’m not sure why you changed Mana being called by name for the first time into her being called a friend for the first time, but it does work well. (Let’s just hope the next episode doesn’t have her actually called a friend for the first time!)
Another line caught my attention: > sasuga rikka-chan
> You’re right, Rikka.
Should be something like ‘That’s Rikka for you’, without implying that Alice knows the right procedure herself.
The “sasuga” thing is because “that’s Rikka for you” sounds really weird when she’s talking to Rikka directly, and there’s not a lot of options for sasuga, so I just went with something remotely fitting. So yeah, I’m actually defending this one.
The “friend” line was because herkz was saying Mana was happy about having her honorific dropped (because lol anime cliches), and I blindly believed him because I thought there was no way Makoto could have avoided referring to her by name at all after all these episodes (and, well, lol anime cliches). But after checking the scripts, she apparently never did. So that one is also not my fault whatsoever.
Yeah, I wanted to add ‘unless this line sounds too weird’. I wasn’t even sure whether I wanted to comment at all. I always end up leaving out the important bits…
sasuga is pretty annoying to translate, isn’t it. I’m trying to imagine this situation in real life; what do you think of ‘Oh, Rikka.’ and the even simpler ‘Rikka…’?
Oh, actually, we’re talking about Alice, so maybe the long-winded ‘As expected of Rikka/you’ would work? And she’s talking to both Rikka and Mana, so this shouldn’t sound as awkward as it would if she was speaking to Rikka alone.
I just want to say that another reason why ‘You’re right, Rikka’ doesn’t sound quite right to me in that scene is that it doesn’t flow too well into the next line, ‘Your mother is a pediatrician, so you must know much about infant care’. Then again, I can’t really explain why I feel this way, so maybe it’s just me.
By now I think ‘You’re right’ is good enough for this release. But I feel we can do better for the batch, ho-ho!
