FAQ
What happened to the other people working on Mahoyo’s translation?
The dude that did the demo’s translation was bad/wrong and would need to be completely TLCed/redone. All the people from Amaterasu were busy and didn’t/couldn’t work on it at all.
Are you going to release any partial patches?
Probably not.
Are you recruiting?
No
Any ETA?
No.

Wait a sec, Fuwanovel says this is in TLC and that everything is translated, but the page on Commie says there is translating to be done. WTF?
too lazy to update it
also that’s partially wrong. it’s fully translated an in editing.
Is it still in editing/testing phase after being fully translated?
yes
So did the editor make any progress ?
actually, yes. he’s been working on it for the past month or so.
Actual progress??? No way…
I knew it
inb4 the editor vanishes
he’s been in commie for like 4 or 5 years, so i doubt it
Wait, Herkz confirmed progress? I might be able to play this in English at some point! YAY!
so can you guys at least give us a date for releasing the fully game
sure, because we can totally see into the future and know exactly when we’ll finish
November 23 2015
thanks for the confirmation :3
sorry for the misunderstanding what i meant is how much time do you need to end it ?! months, years !!
who can say?
Showing editing percentage would be cool…
No easy way to calculate it unfortunately.
Herkz thanks for the replies!! You could have ignored us lowly peasants…
You know Herkz loves us, even if we keep on bitching in the comments
This won’t be out before Donald Trump becomes president
Better start voting then.
republican subs strikes again!
Trump president, Reagan king!!!
Is the patch only going to be compatible with Windows OS?
seeing as the game only works on windows, of course it will be
If you pray to Reagan every night it just might happen…
Who wants to bet that this is all a ruse and Herkz cheeses really hard whenever he replies to anything
I’m willing to bet a lot
I would just hide the page if we really dropped it.
Probably also means that when it does finally finish, you’re not gonna edit the progress on the page and instead will just hide the d/l link in some discreet corner of the page for people to find.
pfft, i would never do that
well, just passing to thank you guys for translating this game =D
Mcjon is winning. You have 3 years to overtake him. Good luck. :3
JK, I’ll be patiently waiting. Btw, do you guys keep the japanese honorifics when characters adress each other?
Nope, no honorifics.
But doesn’t the scene where Aoko introduces herself to Soujuurou make specific mention to honorifics?
I don’t know, but so what? Even discussion of honorifics is possible to translate.
I guess so; but if the small translation that I happened upon was correct, the scene went something like Soujuurou calling Aoko ‘Aozaki-san’, and Aoko asking him to drop the ‘-san’, so I was wondering how the translation was going to address that without adding any sort of weird title like ‘miss’, which you wouldn’t find highschoolers using to address each other anyway.
People in Japan usually use -san at first just to be polite. Saying to drop it is basically the equivalent of saying “You don’t need to be polite” or maybe even that they consider the other person a friend now. It’s not like the kind of concepts honorifics relate to only exist in Japanese (although there are definitely a lot of other things about Japanese culture that are very hard to translate), so I don’t really understand why people are so stuck up on them. In fact, you should be more worried about Nasu’s writing style not really coming across in our (or any) translation, because stuff like that is way harder to translate than some discussion of honorifics.
Ah, I guess that should’ve been pretty obvious from the get-go, my bad. I guess I was just uncomfortable with the translation having everyone refer to themselves in the Western manner after watching subs that always showed otherwise.
I’m guessing this means that you’re not having the characters address each other with their last names as well?
We pretty much always have them address each other with the same name they normally use, just without the honorific. So it’ll still be him calling her Aozaki. I know the guy who did the other patch switched the names around or something, but we don’t do that since it’s silly and also hard to keep track of.
Can you elaborate more on why Nasu’s prose is harder to translate than other authors?
Also, I’ve read that Takashi Masada’s Dies Irae and other VNs are hard to translate because of his prose as well? What makes their usage of the japanese language difficult for an English translation?
Please, try to explain to this to someone who has no knowledge of the Japanese language. Thank you :)
I didn’t mean it exactly like that. I just mean pretty much any writing style is going to be hard to replicate (and he’s definitely not as hard to translate as Masada). There are so many plain translations of Japanese fiction that people these days are “surprised” when a good one is released and it actually reads well. They think there’s no way it could actually sound that good and it must be a “memelation” or something. Anyway, my point was that translating honorifics is nothing compared to how hard it can be to translate a writer who has a very specific style.
How has it been going this month then? No one has said anything so I’m asking.
dunno
Ty for translating this :D
Expect a donation for booze and pizza once this is released. Thank you very much for this!
Once it is released? Well how the fuck do you expect them to translate without the booze and pizza?
#Believe
Is the game going to require a system locale change after the patch?
Yes.
Thanks for caring enough about this VN to translate!
Thank you for your work with this VN!
Thank you commie team!
Is this being actively worked on?
yep
Can we get an update on progress?
no
is editing still worked on or has it stopped?
how else would the project be active if the editor wasn’t working on it?
Wasn’t the editor bogged down by studying?
No, trying to get a job.
Not a good sign! Looking for a job means he plans to abandon all things fan-related :( jk
He got a job a while ago and then started working on it again.
Thanks for hardwork

ResidentSleeper
Can you guys just take this page down to stop confusing people lmao
nope
You’re so silly. As long as there are people to be confused, this page serves a purpose! xD
Is the project even alive? Serious question, just trying to get some information, cause no one discusses it.
somewhat, yes
It’s a labor of love, is it not? A little progress is infinitely greater than no progress.
You have my (and many others’, it seems) patient support.
Hope everyone working on the project is well. Good luck.
Well said, good Sir.
I just want to echo this thought. I could not agree more.
It’s good to see the project is still alive, It’s still one of the Type Moon games I really want to play, that and also the Tsukihime Remake lol. The best I can do is translate manga, so I probably can’t do much to help, but do your best guys!
Thank you so much for doing this:)
Keep at it! You guys are awesome for doing this; can’t wait to play it when you’ve finished :)
Thank you for doing this! I’ve been eagerly watching this page for a while now, I’m looking forward to the release! Don’t take any less time than you need :)
Thanks for making this possible, I read through Night of the Witch 2 and it was a perfect time to stop. Feels like I’m waiting for a sequel more than the rest of the game.
A completed English patch for this game takes longer to be created than Fate/Protoype
nice meme
No meme can surpass this translation project.
xD
its july 8, 2016…
i wonder what is the current status of the project… i hope they updated the charts above… on fuwanovel it said 100% translated and undergoing some finishing touches…
http://fuwanovel.net/novels/mahoutsukai-no-yoru
that’s correct
Just wondering, but looking at the progression of the translation, it seems pretty slow. Considering the guy from beastlair was able to translate chapters 1-5 by himself. Can this project by any chance be picked up by another translation group?
it can but is unlikely to be
Thanks for the hardwork!
mcjon is barely done with ch6, so you’ll definitely finish 1st at this rate, gl m8.
thanks
how long is this? and is it good? worth the wait?
yes it’s well worth the wait
10/10 best porn game prequel
Would’ve been easier to learn Japanese to read this rather than wait for the 3-4 years it’s taken to go nowhere.
no shit
nuu!
preserve your virginity
don’t convert to weabooism like the rest of us!
Still clinging to dear hope here…
We are all holding #Believe
Patience is a virtue.
i hope my children get to play this
i don’t
Herkz you cheered for the iceberg in Titanic too? :(
basically
Im so excited
Ill take the week off work when you’re finished
Love you guys
Wow you lads are still at it.
Respect and a thousamd thanks
Going to buy The actual VN.
Thank you and good luck.translators from Sweden
I wonder if this is still in the editing phase. Don’t think others will start translating, unless they know what’s going on with the current translation projects for this.
i don’t think anyone else cares what we do
You guys still working steadily? Still keeping my hopes up.
not really
Are you guys at least working, at all?
yes, just not very consistently
Is the data on the actual post still accurate or are you further than whats listed above? By the way, thanks for the quick replies, its actually impressive.
that hasn’t been updated in forever
So whats the REAL status on the VN?
100% translated, but i’m not sure how much is edited. 1/3?
Thanks for all of the hard work, regardless of what was said here, you guys stuck with this project for all this time, mad respect.
Obviously this question would have a ROUGH estimate answer, but do you have any kind of estimate on completion for us people waiting?
lol no
Can’t blame me for asking at least.
You guys clearly aren’t very interested in working on it anymore… i don’t see why you don’t either give it to bakatsuki or some other group, or even just publish the work you’ve done so far so that other people can finish it for you. it’s been almost 2 years that it’s been fully translated and in editing.
Ironically i actually made this point to you nearly 2 years ago exactly when you were either nearly or already done with translating and moving on to editing.
Like I said before, I’m not particularly invested in the completion of this project, nor do I feel entitled to having it released at all, but it seems like this could be done and out over a year ago if you guys weren’t so secretive and proprietary with this project.
>give it to bakatsuki
you win the award for worst idea i’ve ever seen
p.s. it’s actively being worked on at the moment
i dunno why it’s a bad idea. to be frank i don’t follow the translation scene at all. maybe you are making a reference to the fact that bakatsuki doesn’t translate visual novels or something? i dont know. i just know they translate non-anime non-manga. either way that completely dodges the point of my comment.
if you are going to either put it on the back burner or make it essentially vaporware i don’t personally understand why you wouldn’t either publish what you have done already or pass it on to a non-bakatsuki group that would be interested in working on it in your stead.
by the way if that’s the worst idea you’ve ever seen, you would be astounded to find out i say insanely stupid things regularly, and some of them are even worse than “give it to bakatsuki”. shocking i know.
baka-tsuki is a wiki anyone can edit, and some of those people use google translate. also, i don’t know why we’d give our translation to someone else. anyone dedicated enough to translate the game would almost certainly want to do their own translation. lastly, a bad/incomplete translation is far worse than no translation, so we’re not going to release it before it’s done.
the whole idea of keeping the “autority” of the project for yourself is to keep a good quality translation, and honoring who spent time into it.
if as you say the “translating” part has already been finished in more than 2 years, all that is left is editing, and i find it very hard to beleive that other translators would screw up the editting, they just need to insert what has been translated directly into the game, i dont know if you should really concern yourself that much, since the translation itself wont be affected at all.
Also, since this was the first translator to announce the project, many who also wished to contribute to it, or even translate themselves either dropped the idea, or are just starting to do it by now (since they arent that likely to expect something from you anymore).
I think you really should take into account the ammount of people involved into the matter, other than just your personal agenda…
no thanks
Thats a very shitty answer
it was a very shitty opinion from someone clearly very uninformed on how translating a VN works
Oh, if you are that much of an informed person, why not do give a clear reason not to work with a lot of very competent translators, other than being an arrogant bastard that doesnt even seem to be trying to work in the project anymore.
That being the case, either drop the project, or name a more competent manager to replace you
because there are no competent translators chomping at the bit to work on mahoyo (not for free, anyway)
what you’re imagining isn’t even happening
p.s. i never once worked on this game at any time and i don’t know why people get the idea that i did. VN translations don’t need a “manager.” the first part of my staff credit literally says “useless.” me not being involved would change nothing.
