No, because BT.709 is correct. What’s wrong is how ASS was never specified to be rendered as YCbCr.
The de facto reference renderer (VSFilter) converts BGR colours in ASS to YCbCr using BT.601, which is then overlaid directly onto the video (in YCbCr), then the whole thing (video + subs) converted back to RGB/BGR/RGBA/BGRA/whatever. The colours used for typesetting are correct insofar as they produce the correct behaviour on this reference setup.

But anyway, just checked the game itself and you’re right, BT709 is the correct one here.

Somehow I think that you’re missing something vitally important, here.
Using vsfilter would make the sub rendered at non-desktop resolution which would make it look ugly and pixelated, which bother me more than unmatched sign color which rarely there anyway, save for shaft stuff.
Yet it doesn’t bother you that the video itself is rendered at non-desktop resolution?

It doesn’t, in any way, undermine the problem that the sub would look pixelated.
Until the day we see vectorized codec and video, I don’t think video rescaling, when its and monitor res don’t match, can be avoided.

What’s up with the tiny subtitles for Media Player Classic?
For eps 6 of Moretsu Pirates, I mean.
Also, the opening narration subs only appear if the Default sub option is on, while signs only show a translation when it’s off. Default is normal sized subs, while having it off is the tiny subs.
I think something may be broken on your end.
Works just fine on every other episode in the series. I was able to fix the size problem, but the opening narration and the announcement made on the intercom on the cruise-liner still only appear if Default is selected.
The name of the cruise-ship is also missing during the briefing.
Found the problem, I think. The missing subs are showing up as italicized in SMPlayer and VLC, but not in Media Player Classic. It’s the only episode using them.
Any idea how to get them to show up in MPC?
I’m looking at the file and I don’t see anything wrong.
Got it. Had to go into MPC and turn on every filter source and type on it’s list. Sorry for bugging you.
