Transmission’s UI isn’t that difficult to navigate through…. There should be a “Verify Local Data” function for that torrent.
The binaries linked to there are really outdated for OSX, if you checked, so you should probably compile it if you want to use it. Or, you could try VLC. Or reinstall MplayerX.
The 1080p NCOP is a remux of the BD stream since it wasn’t really compressible.
Though this is the first time I’ve heard of someone having compatibility issues with an 8bit h264 encode that they didn’t have with 10bit ones. Try a different player?

Most of it is animated at around 720p, yeah. The OP is animated at 1080p (and looks pretty damn nice) and the overlaid credits and stuff are 1080p.
It’s worth downloading the 1080p if you’ve got the space to spare, in my opinion.

You could try changing the video output, but I don’t think that’ll do much. You should rehash the torrent to make sure you downloaded it intact.
Or, since you’re already using an mplayer variant, switch to one that actually has some activity, like mplayer2.
Can’t do a force recheck with Transmission, it’s like piloting a space ship trying to follow the guides how to do it.
