    I’m no doctor, but looks like the disease is Motor Neurone Disease, a.k.a. ALS, or if you’re in the US it’s called Lou Gehrig’s disease. Symptoms are actually pretty close to what you see in the show, it’s an interesting read for anyone who’s interested
