OVA that came with volume 9 of the BDs.

Yes, we’re still working on the rest of the BDs. No, there’s no estimate on when they’ll be done.

  5. SHiN says:

Tsundere is tsundere not some katy perry song you retards.

  6. Kolo says:

“nani wo ima sara… -> Maximum autism. -> lit. Kinda late for that now. As in, “It’s too late to tell the moron how moronic he is.””

wtf? Why would anyone translate that as “Maxium autism”?

    • brainchild says:

This is probably the only line that’s stretching it. Immediately after release, I figured, “He’s already gone full retard” would fit better, but oh well.

Anyway, the sentiment is that Okabe has been running his mouth about stupid shit, and Daru is expressing his annoyance with Okabe. After all, autists don’t know when people want them to shut up.

      Everyone else is an idiot.

      Also,
      >(PS: It’s ‘n’ brainchild, not ‘n).

Blame RHE, not me. And that period should be inside the parenthesis, nigger.

  7. Sebastian says:

I think it’s a good idea to stop fansubbing.

    • Progeusz says:

      Why not simply choose WhyNot?

If someone said “Sage.” to me irl I would try to get as far as possible from that person. People browsing 4chan should know it’s something that’s supposed to stay in the internet.

      • Xythar says:

        >implying most people wouldn’t try and get as far away as possible from Daru anyway

      • Arnavion says:

Do you seriously not realize that every character in this show says 2chan memes out loud? Are you seriously objecting to us converting them into 4chan memes because real people don’t say 4chan memes out loud? Are you sure you’re watching the same show as the rest of us?

        • Progeusz says:

There are many other options to tell someone that what he said was retarded. “Sage” is strictly post related stuff. I doubt they used something that makes absolutely no sense in not-imageboard discussion but feel free to prove it wrong.
“Saged, reported, called the cops” somewhere else in the script is okay but “Sage.” alone as a sentence? It reminds of people who type sage everywhere because they don’t know how it’s used.

          • Progeusz says:

            reminds me*
five hours waiting for the comment to be accepted and we can’t even edit it… Commie, fix it already.

  14. Anon says:

    >Hot ‘n’ Cold

u so shitty Commie but downloading anyway

  15. AMg says:

Hmmm… Commie fans gone derpderp over translation? Must be one hell of purist you there, man. :3

Cannot wait for the movie to come :3

Guess you’ll just have to watch Hadena for your full-fledged autistic Japanophile experience. Whatever will you do?

  17. theWORLD says:

    YES
I found about the ova yesterday, and I thought, “I hope this will come out soon.”
    AND NOW IT’S HERE!!!

  18. Progeusz says:

    :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  21. Rangi says:

What kind of viewer would understand 4chan references like “sage” but wouldn’t know what “tsundere” means? Seriously, if you were translating German to English, would you try to localize “schadenfreude”?

  22. ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌ says:

I see everyone’s still going with Congroo when the last ep showed it starts with a K

  23. ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌ says:

I see everyone’s still going with Congroo when the last ep showed it starts with a K

  24. tsundere says:

    >our localizations

    >sage

“sage” is 100% Japanese word. So, it’s okay to use Japanese words in a localization? Okay then.

    >our localizations

    >Hot ‘n’ Cold

localization is supposed to replace terms from Japanese culture with equivalent/similar terms from English-speaking culture. “tsundere” is an _otaku_ slang word in Japanese, not a mainstream word.
Now, what do you suppose is the equivalent term in English-speaking _otaku_ culture? OMG, it’s… tsundere!

If you want to localize, at least do it properly.

    • Arnavion says:

      >“sage” is 100% Japanese word.

I hate to break it to you… but by that logic kamikaze and harakiri are “100% Japanese words” and shouldn’t be used too.

      • Rangi says:

“sage,” “epic fail,” etc make sense as localizations because they’re the English equivalents of the original Japanese. Whatever 2chan memes were actually in the script, those are what would have been said by American otaku. But “tsundere” is slang for the same thing in Japanese and English. No American says “hot n’ cold” when talking about a tsundere, plus the phrase itself sounds silly. I don’t recall if the word “moe” was ever used in S;G, but it’s the same principle — you wouldn’t try to localize it as “cute.”

        • Xythar says:

          >I don’t recall if the word “moe” was ever used in S;G, but it’s the same principle — you wouldn’t try to localize it as “cute.”

          Yeah uh about that

        • fucking grey lettters on blue bacjground says:

An average American probably doesn’t know what “sage” means.

      • ( ˃ ヮ˂) says:

The argument here is that tsundere *is* a loanword and so is the correct translation to use in English.

(The rest of your translation was spot-on. As always, thanks for your work.)

        • Xythar says:

Until it’s in the English dictionary it’s not a loanword, just a Japanese word that some English speaking enthusiasts like to use.

In general terms, the word “tsundere” doesn’t belong in any English script.

          • Progeusz says:

Burn your Thick Mighty American Language Grammar Book which you’ve never read anyways and get real. Tsundere is valid word in English and other languages. MUCH more valid than sage (btw have fun trying to find sage in dictionary [inb4 wise elder]). Only /a/nons know about sage, excluding newfags. Most of anime fans know about tsundere.
            Commie, there are limits.

            • Progeusz says:

Shit, all anons*, not just /a/nons. Force of habit…

            • erejnion says:

See, but everyone in Japan knows what tsundere means, it’s part of the common knowledge and part of the language.

The characters use “tsundere” and use 2ch memes, so while “tsundere” is a valid word and is translated as a valid word by Commie, the 2ch memes are memes and are translated as english memes. I don’t see a problem.

              • Progeusz says:

Problem is, there exist NONE translation of “tsundere”. Nobody uses “Hot ‘n’ Cold”. Nobody. I’ve never seen it anywhere outside of trollsubs (I don’t remember whether it was Commie’s or gg’s release of some other episode). “sage” is really niche word -only anons know it, and sadly not all of them, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was ~50%.
“Hot ‘n’ Cold” is either trolling or major translation error.
“Sage.” is acceptable at best (only retards use it as content of posts), there are much better options.

      • ( ˃ ヮ˂) says:

The argument here is that tsundere *is* a loanword and so is the correct translation to use in English.

(The rest of your translation was spot-on. As always, thanks for your work.)

      • tsundere says:

Actually, my point was not that “sage” should not be used. My point was that as long as a Japanese word is assimilated into some part of English culture (if you can call 4chan a “culture), it works in a localization. “Sage” works, so does “kamikaze” and so does “tsundere”.

(having said all that, localization is a losing proposition in the best of times and even more so when subcultures/slang terms are involved).

  25. Faggot says:

    Hey, uh, guys.

    Thanks.

Good luck explaining localization to retards.

  26. !!! says:

This is some heavy localization, yet strangely the average public wouldn’t understand it either way. Not too sure how I feel about this.

    • johnny_dickpants says:

They’ll feel like the rest of the Japanese people that watched Steins and didn’t get the 2chan jokes.

  27. wharble-gharble says:

wait, so in terms of story line… is it over?

do they all live happily ever after? no more steins gate?

rule 34 any one? or is that not part of the BD?

and in regards to translation(I really shouldn’t care but), some of it was a little difficult to follow, and I agree this would have been difficult to follow even if you’re Japanese, so translate for a different audience must be a bitch to do properly

none the less, great job guys love your work!

  28. IchiGOAWAY says:

Odd language choices aside, thank you thank you!

  29. 牛肉人 says:

Hey hey holy cow now, what the fuckin fuck?! “Hot ‘n cold” sounds like some shitty dessert with ice cream and coffee. Make v2 and just leave it tsundere.

Am strongly against as a super-cool japanerd with kanji as a name.
