Teekyuu 93

( ´‿ゝ`)

I feel like I need to explain a few jokes in this episode.

At ~00:46, Nasuno actually says “Yukichi” instead of “Benjamin.” This is slang for a 10,000 yen note, named after the guy on it (Fukuzawa Yukichi). Coincidentally, it’s also worth about $100, the note Benjamin Franklin appears on.

The “All men are created equal” line is actually the Japanese equivalent of this and a famous quote from Fukuzawa Yukichi. Wikipedia tells me Benjamin Franklin was involved with writing that line in the Declaration of Indepedence, so it worked out pretty well. The reason Kanae is standing on top of a pyramid of guys is because the literal translation of that phrase is “A man is created neither above nor below any other,” though she just quotes the “above” part. Anyway, she’s physically above them, thus the joke. Obviously this doesn’t apply to the phrase “All men are created equal,” so I guess it can’t be helped.

What’s written on Nasuno’s face at ~01:00 actually says “Teekyuu volumes 1-12 on sale now!”

Also, I believe this episode is the first time the anime referenced what the episode titles actually refer to. They’re movies Kanae watched the previous day.
