    You never know.

  2. Alb A9A9 says:

screw the romanization! just call the butler alfred.
    btw thanks for the release.

  3. anime fan says:

In episode 5 when Mana transforms her fairy’s name is subbed as Charles. I’m pretty dang sure her fairy is a girl, so you may want to change that in an update.

    • Alb A9A9 says:

have you ever seen infinite stratos? there is a chick called charles in that anime too, besides thats probably the correct romanization for the fairy.

    • herkz says:

that is the french pronunciation of charles so no

    • Xythar says:

It sounds dumb but that’s what the name actually means so I don’t fault airco for keeping it like that instead of making something else up.

    • Chortos-2 says:

They called her Sharuru at first. They had this comment in episode 3: {Okay, I’m not going with Charles here until I see something official.}. They called her Sharyl in episode 4. (Why?) Now I presume airco has seen some official material spelling her name ‘Charles’.

      That said, my reaction was:
      >Charles

      noo whyy

      • herkz says:

no, the official romanization is “sharuru”

        but charles actually makes sense

        nothing else makes sense

other anime characters have the same name

        etc.

        • Chortos-2 says:

How does Charles make sense? It sure sounds the same, but that alone doesn’t mean it makes sense. If there’s another reason, I’m genuinely curious to know it.

          • herkz says:

because sharuru approximates the french pronunciation of charles

          • Xythar says:

The King of Hearts was known as Charles in early France:
            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_%28playing_card%29

You can also see the origin of Davi’s name there. I forget where Rachel and Lance come from but they have similar origins.

            • Chortos-2 says:

              Oh wow. Thanks!

I was able to find all four here:
              http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playing_card

              Charles: King of Hearts
Rachel: Queen of Diamonds (biblical, apparently pronounced ‘ra-kel’, although I can’t find conclusive information on which syllable is stressed–or whether this applies to English at all)
              Lancelot: Knave of Clubs
              David: King of Spades

So… They’ve gender-swapped Charles and Rachel. Or they’re just trolling us by using outdated and non-standard-for-Precure boy and girl colours.

              • Xythar says:

Yeah, Rachel is ラケル (rakeru) in the show. We had Raquel for a bit, but seeing as how the Biblical figure is generally written as Rachel, that’s what we’ll use from now on I believe.

              • herkz says:

pretty sure the people at toei just can’t into non-japanese languages

            • airco says:

Since I didn’t bother to check the comments in time, pretty much this. You can blame me for never bothering to Google their names, since some of the first results for シャルル and ラケル are:
              http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A3%E3%83%AB%E3%83%AB
              http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%A9%E3%82%B1%E3%83%AB
(Not necessarily representative of the actual sources of the names, but enough to show what the romanization should be)

Episodes 1-4 were pretty much me making shit up because I can’t into romanization and thought it would be weird for a pretty pink fairy to have a male name. But oh well, it can’t be helped. That’s why life gives us batches.

  4. Chortos-2 says:

In other news, the sign at the end appears twice but is translated only in the first appearance, despite the second one in fact being longer. Just another little thing you will want to fix in the batch if you ever make one.
