Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu. BDs Volume 1
Let’s do this. Special thanks to lyger for the particle effect on the title logo and me for everything else.
A couple of notes:
* Thuearle is now Twoearle because there is significant evidence that this is the official spelling of her name.
* I’m trying out 4:4:4 chroma sampling (aka “Hi444PP”) for the 720p as it looks considerably better. You shouldn’t need to do anything out of the ordinary to decode it if you’re using the recommended CCCP setup.
* The 1080p includes the commentary as a second track, but it isn’t subbed.
Enjoy!

Pls no memerino, brb downloading CG release with based [P] subs.
4:4:4 10 bit is the wave of the future.
For 720p, yeah. Not much point in using it for 1080p when the sources are still 4:2:0 though.
It’s also pretty much pointless if the anime is grainy and there are not that many red details.
Anyway… if you’re going the extra mile to keep all the chroma information you may want to consider an inverse kernel resize, judging from the screenshot it probably has not been used.

Lol you guys are talking about this, and I just spent 5 minutes moving the mouse on and off that comparison and I can’t see any difference in the two at all..
One of the many reasons I stay out of discussions about encoding.
I had to move to 20cm distance to my 24″ Full HD monitor to see the difference and I am still not sure if it is really better or just different.
And while my Atom 330 was barely fast enough to decode 720p Hi10P videos, it no longer is for Hi444PP.
The Atom 330 is over six years old. I recommend the Intel NUC if you’re looking for a small, powerful media PC. Mine handles 10bit 1080p without breaking a sweat – you’ll probably notice everything else runs a lot smoother too.
An AMD NUC is fine too.
NUC is an Intel brand, so I think it’s unlikely that you’ll see one from AMD.
You are right, my mistake. Please allow me to rephrase it: an AMD miniPC is fine too.
I tried it for a bit (probably for that comparison too) but I got rid of it for the final encode since I didn’t see the point in using inverse kernel for upscaling.
I meant for the luma downscale, I agree it’s pretty pointless to use if for chroma (and probably something like spline/blackman + good sharpening is overall better than inverse kernel upscale), but for luma, al long as there are no details >720p it’s pretty good.
Oh, right. Yeah, I ended up sharpening the 1080p with lsfmod (since the show has credits, ep titles, etc at >720p and I can’t be bothered masking them when lsfmod looks pretty good as it is) so the 720p is a downscale of that.
One of these days I’ll find a show I can cleanly debilinear/debicubic, but now is not that day.

I’m biased as I wrote the origin script, but it works well enough in my opinion.
For the script and some use cases:

Hope it may be useful.
P.S. For sharpening I tend to prefer FineSharp to Lsfmod, much natural result imho.
I also wrote a wrapper function for Debilinear that masks credits. Shouldn’t be hard to modify it for other inverse kernels too if you wanted.

Anything else apart from x264 tweaks to mention in the BluRays? No specials or OVAs?
Not besides the commentary and creditless OP/ED, no.
IMS barely managed to deliver the show itself, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for extra content.
I spent about 3min trying to find the “considerable” improvement with my face 10cm away from the screen; all I managed to find was a very slight sharpening of sharp color boundaries, and the only noticeable portion being with the red-black interfaces.
Where’s the “considerable”? Or is it that my screen just fails?
Yes, the colours are sharper. It’s particularly noticeable on the red.
From an encoding standpoint, it’s considerable.
will this be commie’s new standard?
There are several people who encode BDs for Commie. I’m just one of them and I tend to do whatever.
we don’t really have one
also, 4:4:4 has been used before (inugami). we just didn’t say anything and no one seems to have noticed!
What is the “recommended cccp setup” by the way? Just out of curiosity.
http://www.cccp-project.net/
I know what CCCP is. Been using that for years. I specifically asked what the “recommended cccp setup” was. Installing just the standard program with no alterations would normally be classified as the “default setup” not necessarily the what is recommended to use.
– Kat
(the recommended) (CCCP setup)
as in the CCCP setup, which is recommended
Thank you for clarifying that for me.

You know we can see the name you post under?
– Kat
Yes I do, though I think you mean above the post. It’s more of just habit as not every place on the net is the same. So I just sign everything automatically after posting.

Just curious: Am I the only one not seeing ANY difference between those two screenshots?
i dont even see a 2nd screenshot.
LOL, I see 4:4:4 is WORSE than 4:2:0. It did some noise on her ahoge now.
oh god yes epic memes and twintails in glorious hd I came so hard that I blew a hole in my ceiling and now my ceiling is leaking a mixture of jizz and rain
p.s.
remake with good budget and animation for proper action scenes and over the top twintail love when?
Is KanColle confirmed? If you are gonna do it I mean.
unfortunately we are
btw any update on Yotsugi Doll?
slow progress because it’s a lot of work
Sounds good, I guess. Good luck with it.
blame shaft for changing all the signs
Shaft must have heard unanimated wrote a script for them, and decided you needed a challenge, herkz.
;_;
I wouldn’t put it past them.
Or maybe just Shinbo deleted all fonts in some drunken stupor.
