your name.

1080p | 720p

This was encoded from the Italian BD release (both the best quality source and the correct framerate unlike most of the BDs that have been released), and this release includes the dub with “English” songs (enjoy that if it’s even possible).

Anyway, Kizu 3 is next probably.

Did you just edit the official subs or is this an original TL? If so, who worked on it?

  13. WOLO says:

How does this compare to HTT’s release?

    • herkz says:

i mean it has worse video that’s the wrong framerate

idk about the subs but i imagine they’re at least a little worse

i can’t imagine there’s any release of the movie that even compares since i’m not aware of any other that has been encoded from the italian BD

How does the Italian BD compare with the 4k UHD HDR from the JP collector’s edition? I’m well aware it is an upscale on the digital master and not true 4k HDR, but the 4k transfer was screened by Shinkai and given his blessing , so at the very least, it shouldn’t look WORSE, right?

And what major edits did you make to the retail TL?

Also, what is this stuff about the wrong frame rate?

    • herkz says:

      >so at the very least, it shouldn’t look WORSE, right?

If it was just a straight upscale with “HDR” it probably wouldn’t look any worse (though I consider the weird faked colors worse), but the upscale was done by a company that does really dumb shit when they upscale, so it does look worse even if you scale it back down.

      >And what major edits did you make to the retail TL?

I mean, there were entire conversations where they just left words in Japanese because localizing is too hard for them.

      >Also, what is this stuff about the wrong frame rate?

The movie was made at exactly 24 fps, but most releases are 23.976 fps.

I appreciate all of the info, thank you. I know the HK BD is inferior, but what makes the Italian 1080p BD superior to, say, the JP 1080p BD or the US 1080p BD?

        • herkz says:

          It looks better?

          • Bob says:

I appreciate your quick answers, thank you. But why would they use different transfers for the same release on the video side? Is that common?

            • herkz says:

I’m pretty sure the master is the same. The Italian company just did a better job of compressing it than anyone else. For instance, the master doesn’t have any banding, but the other releases all added some while encoding, while the Italian BD doesn’t have any. It also has better fine detail in complicated scenes like when it’s snowing at the end because they used better encoding settings to give scenes like that more bitrate.

      • Bob says:

Also, does the “wrong” frame rate matter for anything? Like 23.976 and 24fps are just different playback speeds, as long as audio/video/subs sync it shouldn’t matter what speed you play at, correct?
